What is it?

From October 21st 2011, a small team from Brockley Community Church will embark on one big adventure to Burundi, Central Africa.

The reason for going is to support one of our missionaries Alison Gill, who is working in training leaders on trauma healing, reconciliation and peace.

Burundi is one of the ten poorest countries in the world; it has been ravaged by civil war and has suffered genocide in 1972 and 1993. The wounds are deep in the lives of the people there; it is a place of extremes- horror and hope, darkness and light.

Our team will only be there for a short time (just over a week). We intend to come alongside Alison in her work; we’ll be involved in teaching, workshops and helping with children. It will be a very full and busy time.

Part of the trip will be taken up with a visit to the Batwa, who are an indigenous people, a people living right on the edge, really at the bottom of the social pile.
They live in extreme poverty, many times living in a hand to mouth situation far beyond what we can imagine.

The aim of the art auction is to raise funds, by selling fine illustrated works, limited edition prints, and signed books by author and illustrator also original art.

The money raised will go towards some of the travel expenses of the trip; a substantial proportion of the money will go toward the Batwa Project, which provides food, education and healthcare for this forgotten people group.
